What is Shockwave Therapy?
ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy) is an effective non-invasive procedure for the treatment of tendon and soft tissue problems. The sound waves produced during the treatment stimulate healing for many physical disorders including:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendonitis
- Tennis elbow
- Shoulder tendinopathies
- Foot, ankle, knee and hip traumas
- Chronic myofascial conditions
The machine has various settings which can be altered to either reduce pain, promote healing or destroy scar tissue and calcification. A combination of these settings will be used to achieve the desired effect depending on the presenting problem.
What is Involved?
In your initial consultation we will go through the history of your condition and perform an ultrasound scan to see if it will be suitable for shockwave treatment. We will also discuss the procedure along with the risks, costs and benefits. If your condition is suitable, we can commence your first session in the same appointment. If you are suitable for treatment, you will only be charged for treatment and no extra for the consultation.
How long will it take?
Sessions take around 20 minutes and 80% of appropriate conditions are resolved within 5-10 sessions, making shockwave a very efficient treatment option.
What are the risks?
Shockwave is non invasive and very safe. Side effects can include soreness during and after the session, but generally this is short lived.
